SUSTAINABILITY

For a practice to be considered sustainable it must be productive, profitable, enhance the quality and abundance of our natural resources, and improve the quality of life for our families and communities.

These things can include biodiversity, soil health, ecological pest management and water conservation.

Morning Star Farms currently utilizes the following sustainability practices:

  • Cover crops to prevent soil erosion

  • Crop rotation to allow nutrients to be added or drawn out

  • Rotational grazing allows corn stalk residue to be turned into natural fertilizer

  • Evaluating soil quality and selecting appropriate crop/seed

  • Investing capital in equipment to utilize organic matter

  • Using natural fertilizer and manure to reduce use of fertilizers
